The Best Bedding We’ve Tested: Sheets, Pillows, and Duvets
We slept on 18 sheet sets, 12 pillows, and 8 duvets to find the bedding that’s actually worth buying.
You spend a third of your life in bed. The bedding you choose affects sleep quality, temperature regulation, and how you feel every morning. After sleeping on 18 sheet sets, 12 pillows, and 8 duvets over four months, these are the products that earned a permanent place in our beds.
Best Linen Sheets: Parachute Classic Linen Sheet Set
Linen is the most breathable natural fiber for sheets, which makes it ideal for warm sleepers and hot summers. Parachute’s linen is European flax, woven loosely enough to breathe and densely enough to last. It softens with every wash — after six months it feels nothing like the slightly scratchy newness of day one. The wrinkled look is part of the aesthetic; if that bothers you, look at their percale cotton instead.
What to Look For in Sheets
Thread count is mostly marketing. Anything above 400 is achieved by counting multi-ply threads individually — a trick that inflates the number without improving softness. A 300-thread-count sheet from quality long-staple cotton will outperform a 1000-count sheet from short-staple cotton.
Fiber matters more. Long-staple cotton (Egyptian, Pima, Supima) produces a smoother, more durable sheet. Linen is cooler and more breathable. Bamboo is soft but loses its shape faster. Microfiber is cheap and easy to care for but retains heat.
